CURRENT DENSITY MEASUREMENT |
A variety of effects contribute to the current through an LC-cell (e.g. capacitive charging current, ionic conductivity, transient current caused by re-orientation of the LC-molecules, etc.). The measurement of the "current density" is supposed to evaluate the effect of the resistive components of LC-conduction, not taking into account any other of the above mentioned effects. |

| ION MOBILITY MEASUREMENT |
Ionic contamination can dramatically affect the performance of an LCD. Respectively is the determination of the amount of free ions, described by the ion mobility or ion density, an important measure for the level of contamination. The LCCS comprises 2 methods to analyze the ION MOBILITY / ION DENSITY of an LC cell. 1. low frequency triangular waveform measurement (dynamic mode), 2. transient leakage current method. |
| MDI |
Module Driving Interface for serial, parallel or I2C modules. Application: LCM and OLED module |
| MEASUREMEN OF DIELECTRIC CONSTANTS |
To describe the electrical properties the dielectric properties of a cell have to be known. By measuring the capacitance of two otherwise similar cells with one having homeotropic and the other planar orientation, the system determines ε ┴ and ε װ (as the difference between both: ∆ε). To evaluate the dielectric constants the system measures the capacitance of the test cells (with a high-sensitivity LCR-meter) and the capacitance of similar empty cells. The dielectric constants are determined as ε=CLC/Cempty |

| POLYGONIOSCOPE |
POLYGONIOSCOPE is equipped with a multichannel spectro-radiometer (MCS), i.e. up to 10 separate spectro-radiometers. In fact, the MCS is measuring the spectra of the DUT from 10 different viewing directions simultaneously with superior accuracy and therefore reduces the measuring time by more than 10 times! |
| RESIDUAL DC |
When a liquid crystal cell is driven with a voltage that is not perfectly DC-free, the DC-component effects a separation of various charge carriers in the LC-cell and finally a deposition of these charges on the electrodes and alignment layers of the cell. As a result we can measure a remaining DC-voltage between the electrodes of the cell even after switching OFF of the initial electrical driving signal. This remaining voltage is called "residual DC (voltage)" and its value is depending on a variety of parameters like amount of initial DC-voltage and time of application, alignment layer material and process parameters for its formation (e.g. curing temperature and time, rubbing material and process, etc.) and for sure, on the purity of the LC-material. |

| Source Meter |
Current or voltage source, in particular for current driven devices like OLEDs. |
| Spectrophotometer |
A spectrophotometer is a photometer (a device for measuring light intensity) that can measure intensity as a function of the color (or more specifically the wavelength) of light. Important features of spectrophotometers are spectral bandwidth and linear range of absorption measurement. |
| Spectroradiometers |
Spectroradiometers are designed to measure the spectral power distributions of illuminants. They operate almost like spectrophotometers in the visible region. They are commonly used to evaluate and categorize lighting for sales by the manufacturer, or for the customers to confirm the lamp they decided to purchase is within their specifications. Spectroradiometers are frequently used to calibrate LCD and CRT displays such as on laptops and HDTVs. CIE color values are measured and compared to predefined values, to ensure that the color displayed is correct, thus removing color variance between multiple displays. |
